John McAvoy says he is a product of hard knocks and night school on the GI Bill, following his "grand tour" of South Vietnam at the tail end of the 60s, courtesy of patriotic American taxpayers. He distinguished himself by graduating law school, passing the California Bar Examination and paying off his student loans.
Admitted to the California and Federal Bars during the Iranian hostage crisis, he has been doing battle with the casualty insurance industry ever since. He works mostly in San Diego County, but occasionally ventures into courtrooms in places like Denver, Las Vegas, Los Angeles and San Francisco.
Now, almost thirty years later, he still works for ordinary people - men, women and children who get thrown into the public arena of civil litigation through no fault of their own save their unwillingness to be victimized twice. Not bad enough already, their quiet lives are degraded by pain, financial loss and missed opportunities to enjoy their moments of daily pleasure - all because of careless drivers, property owners, manufacturers and even sometimes, healthcare providers. They must then run the gauntlet of insurance adjusters and attorneys, whose idea of fairness is whatever they can sell to cynical and parsimonious jurors.
John is the recipient of the Outstanding Trial Lawyer Award from the Consumer Attorneys of San Diego. He also received the highest possible Peer Review Rating as compiled by Martindale Hubbell in its national attorney directory, which attests to a lawyer's legal ability and professional ethics as reflected by the confidential opinions of members of the Bar and Judiciary.
